Don't be hard on your concrete

Snow is here to stay for a few more weeks.

When you remove the snow on your driveway or cement pad, consider staying away from salt this year.

The salt you use will be bad for your plants and grass, when spring comes around.

Also, the salt will eat away at your concrete, with nasty holes and chips showing up this spring.

Use crushed rock, the size of pea gravel, after you've removed most of the snow,

or add a little fine sand.

For larger amounts get a bulk bag at your garden centre or gravel supplier

Selling in a buyers market

If you want to sell in a buyers market, you have to prepare yourself properly.

As there are more buyers than sellers, you want to stand out. Buyers can afford to be picky.

Make sure all the details that a buyer is looking for are looked after.

A cluttered home looks smaller, put non-essential items in storage, or sell them.

Consider a fresh coat of paint

Repair or replace locks, fixtures and structures

Have a close look at your flooring, walls, and roof.

Heating your house with wood

A fireplace or stove gives you lots of "free" heat compare to your furnace that runs on gas.

When you buy fire wood, consider the price of spruce, pine or popular, compared to birch.

The higher cost for birch won't result in that much more heat for the extra $$  you spend.

However dry and split wood will make a lot of difference.

Don't forget to tell your fire insurance that you have a stove or fire place.

If you get a house fire, you might be not insured if you don't tell them!

Before installing a stove or airtight fireplace, ask about the cost of insurance.

Some companies charge 25% more premium when you have a stove.

Just a thought:

If you're not making mistakes,

your not doing anything
